Our Story

Pentreath & Hall is one of the most unusual and exciting shops in London. Catching a glimpse of our traditionally painted, glossy black shop front and painted glass sign is enough to tempt many passers-by within, where they discover an Aladdin’s cave of antiques, new homewares, and our range of exclusive decorative items.

For others, Pentreath & Hall is a world that opens up through our website, and especially through Ben’s weekly blog, Inspiration, which has become regular Monday morning reading for thousands of people around the globe. We love meeting these customers, from all over the world, many of whom make a visit to Rugby Street their first stop of any trip to our great capital city of London.

Ben Pentreath and Bridie Hall came to shop-keeping unexpectedly: close friends who joined in this venture more than a decade ago, from which they’ve never looked back.  The shop opened almost by accident, when Ben took on the now famous building at 17 Rugby Street to expand his office. We opened a small shop in the front of the room. Within months the office had outgrown its new space and the shop was proving to be incredibly successful.

Ben is an architectural and interior designer, with a practice that now spans all facets of the design world from masterplanning to the creation of beautiful new buildings and interiors.

Bridie is a decorative artist and maker, whose imagination is constantly exploring new avenues in the worlds of antiquity, country houses, gardens, zoological forms, typography and decorative art.

Both are creating a new British tradition that respects the past but is never dull, and both bring a powerful creative dynamic to the shop that they have run together since 2008.

Since its creation, first as Ben Pentreath Ltd and, since 2013, as Pentreath & Hall, the shop has become an outstanding destination for those seeking beautiful, unusual and decorative things for their home. We are thrilled to welcome you to our website, or to the shop itself, and thank you for your visit and your custom.
