Newt Pond by Eric Ravilious

Watercolour and pencil, 1932. There’s a serene and restrained beauty here. Flint barns and peg-tiled roofs are painted in repeat, reflected as they are on the surface of the water. Ravilious has always been known as a quintessentially English artist, and here you see why. Not only are these vernacular English farm buildings, but the colours in the spring countryside are typical. You see tufts of early daffodils, the trees are newly in leaf, and the sky is an egg-shell blue. An exceptional print in the Ravilious watercolour range.
