A striking plaster cast plaque depicting a series of Roman emperors, after a 19th-century Italian original. The relief profiles, shown in alternating directions, create a rhythmic and sculptural composition inspired by classical portraiture.

Referencing the tradition of Grand Tour souvenirs, the portraits are likely drawn from representations of the “Twelve Caesars,” a subject long associated with neoclassical interiors and collections of antiquities. The bold terracotta-red finish lends a contemporary note while emphasising the finely modelled detail of each profile.

The individual casts are arranged on a simple plaster backing, allowing the repetition of form to read as a unified composition while retaining a sense of depth and shadow. This format gives the piece a strong decorative presence, equally suited to wall display or propped on a shelf or console.

A characterful object with a sense of history
