Village Street by Eric Ravilious

Watercolour, 1936. Cycling through Falcon Square, Castle Hedingham, Essex, the glassy surface reflecting light from an English sky. It is easy to imagine the sound of tyre on watery tarmac as you make your way through this English village. And Ravilious would have know this sound well as he and his compatriots cycled everywhere.
