Ivinghoe Beacon, north Buckinghamshire. late Spring, the trees are in leaf, the grass is green and the chalk of the downland reflects light from the sky. Nash often preferred to depict the autumnal English landscape with its muted and more sombre colours. Here, however, he is enthralled by lighter and fuller tones, Paul Nash was an Official War Artist during both the First and Second world wars.
